Job Description

About Us

AfterShip is an automation platform that empowers eCommerce retailers to create and manage the world’s best online shopping experiences. Powering the tracking of over 4.4billion order shipments for 17,000 eCommerce retailers like Amazon, Harry’s and Kylie Cosmetics, AfterShip is the one-stop shop for eCommerce tools that support website pop-ups, advanced email flows, page building, shipment visibility, branded shipment tracking, proactive email and SMS notifications, returns, and exchanges.

Our strong product market fit, prioritizing solving real problems for our customers, has resulted in a strong growth trajectory for the company. We secured a 66 million dollar Series B in 2021.

At AfterShip, we are building a diverse and high-performing culture that encourages collaboration and experimentation on a global scale. Even as a company with over 10 years under our belt and 450 AfterShippers across our 8 global offices, we embrace a dynamic and agile approach to our work.

We operate with a flat team structure, where you will have opportunities to contribute your ideas and take ownership over your work to create meaningful impact for the business and the customers we serve. If you’re looking for a vehicle to achieve your professional goals and work alongside fantastic teams, we invite you to join us.

Your Mission:

As a People Operations Intern reporting to the Head of People, you will be responsible for crafting a fantastic employee experience for AfterShippers in our Austin hub, and play an important role as an extension of the North American People Team. This is a great opportunity for students looking to get work experience in a high-growth tech company environment or are looking to pursue a career in Human Resources and People Operations.

The successful candidate has strong communication and relationship management skills, works in a proactive manner, is tech-savvy, well organized and adept at handling sensitive employee information. You would be expected to maintain high levels of professionalism and confidentiality. This is an opportunity to create a meaningful work experience for your colleagues and work in a dynamic environment where everyday feels unique.

This is a paid part-time internship position where you would be expected to work with the team on-site in our office in Austin, Texas, as well as liaise with the People Team, particularly the People Operations Specialist based in Toronto, Canada, virtually. The People Operations Intern will work 15 hours per week (2 x 7.5hr work days) for the duration of the Winte Semester 2024, with the opportunity to extend. Compensation for the position will be $20-24/hr.

What You’ll Do:

  • Ensure the office is well maintained and secure (cleanliness, office and snack supplies as appropriate).
  • Maintain records, documentation, budget records, and files (e.g. company laptop tracking or WeWork pass allocation).
  • Reception duties, including greeting employees and clients visiting the office.
  • Support employees with office equipment and supplies.
  • New hire orientation to the office and onboarding assistance during their first weeks.
  • Be responsible for the planning and execution of team events/socials.
  • Plan and execute culture-building initiatives.
  • Create and maintain HR-related documents and databases, using Notion and the Google Suite.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Actively enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program with a co-op or required internship program, preferably in Human Resource;
  • Knowledge of core functions within People Operations and/or Project Management is an asset;
  • Work experience in an operations role or startup setting would be beneficial;
  • Familiarity with Google Suite, Mac OS, BambooHR, and Notion is an asset;
  • Strong relationship management skills to build strong partnerships with internal teams both in-person and remotely;
  • Have the ability to maintain focus under pressure in order to meet tight deadlines and fulfill people related projects.

At AfterShip, we understand that not all applicants will have skills that match the job description exactly. We value diverse experiences and respect that experience comes in many different forms, so even if you feel you may not meet every qualification to a T then we still encourage you to apply. We are always looking for people who can help us continue to raise the bar for our team and who want to join us on our mission.

Why You Should Join Us:

  • In addition to this being a paid internship position, we also provide $20 per day for lunch and $10 per day as a commuter benefit.
  • We are super proud of our geeky culture, started by our engineer-turned-CEO, and the diversity of the team, cultivated by a group of amazing people from all over the world.
  • You will be part of a company with strong product market fit, prioritizing solving real problems for our customers, which has resulted in a strong growth trajectory for the company. We secured a 66 million dollar Series B in 2021.
  • There is virtually no ceiling for either what you will be doing or learning here, and we want to support you to grow. We have great ambition to make buying and selling easier for everyone in this world -- one of the most exciting spaces for a technology start-up to be in.

We are an equal opportunity employer. In addition, we are committed to providing accommodations for applicants upon request at any stage of the recruitment process in accordance with the legislative requirements of this job’s location. Please let us know if you require accommodation due to a disability during any aspect of the recruitment process and we will work with you to address your needs.
